I was on my morning commute the other day and saw this at a local shop: I was immediately struck by these paper shoes wrapped in plastic, as I thought they could serve no practical purpose–they must be ceremonial. There was also paper clothing, paper designer handbags and paper money. The shoes are preparation for... Continue Reading →
Happy February!
This is an exciting month around here. Last weekend was the opening of the Six Nations rugby (I cheered for Ireland and England, both won), Pete's birthday, and a superbowl with a power outage that I did not watch. I was in England on November 11 last year, and went to a crowded ceremony at the cenotaph in Maidstone (a small one on the 11th, and a larger one on the following Sunday). This year in Hong Kong, there is a... Continue Reading →
Beach Parties
On Sunday night I may have accidentally crashed a child's birthday party. I think her dad's name is Mike. I never met him, or her. We were on Lantau, which is another tropical island nearby, staying with our friend, and had gone down to the beach to join Lantern Festival barbecues. There were many barbecues...
